The Red Tag Jig has to be one of my most successful river flies taking fish all around Europe and most rivers it has visited in the UK.
Being such a widely used pattern I always try to ‘tweek’ the tyings a bit, to offer something that little bit different. Here I have used a whole CDC feather for the body and hackle, I always try to incorporate CDC somewhere into my heavier fly patterns to give it that ‘life-like’ look. The CDC traps air when it’s lobbed into a run which could represent anything from a drown hatching insect or egg sacks.
