Over the last week Facebook has told me that anglers around the UK have started to see the very first of the Mayfly! This is an exciting time of year, when the mayfly start to hatch trout seem to change their finicky ways and attack the mayfly with anger and excitement, splashing at the surface either taking them or drowning the fly to make it an easy target. Being such a large morsel these flies have the ability to take off very quickly, so the trout have to be quick …and so do you when you have a rise!
The below pattern is my all round favourite ‘upwing’ fly pattern – It can be tied in many various colours and sizes to match almost any ‘mayfly upwing’. This pattern is more or less a Ducks Dunn pattern.
There’s a few more new fly tying videos on my videos page!
Just discovered the joys of fly fishing this will be my first atempt at fly tying. Ill post you an update picture. It will be terrible.
